Congregation L'Dor V'Dor Happenings

In Daniel Sokatch’s new book, Can We Talk About Israel? he meets the emotional landmines of the issues head-on and answers seemingly off-the-table questions like, “Does there really need to be a ‘Jewish State?’” and “Is Zionism justifiable?” with expert perspective and understanding. Join us and hear the story of why even those on the sidelines of these heated conversations should care, why Israel matters, and why supporting those Israelis and Palestinians working to resolve their conflict is so important, not only for the Middle East, but for America and for the world.

Daniel Sokatch is the chief executive officer of the New Israel Fund (NIF). He served as the executive director of the Progressive Jewish Alliance and the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. Sokatch has been named four times to the Forward’s “Forward 50,” an annual list of the fifty leading Jewish decision makers and opinion shapers. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and other publications. Sokatch holds an MA from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, a JD from Boston College Law School, and a BA from Brandeis University. He is married with two daughters and lives in San Francisco.

In addition to serving as our congregation’s spiritual leader Rabbi Steven Moskowitz is a senior rabbinic fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute. Prior to coming to the synagogue 22 years ago, he helped lead the 92nd Street Y’s Bronfman Center for Jewish Life. His writings can be found on his blog: www.rabbimoskowitz.com.
