The mission of our synagogue is not only to serve the needs of our members and to deepen their Jewish lives through learning and prayer, but also to fulfill the obligation to heal and repair our world.  At the JCB we are committed to a number of social action projects.

Hurricane and Disaster Relief

We continue to reach out to those suffering in our community and the surrounding area.

• Nechama: We are partnering with this Jewish disaster relief organization that specializes in helping families clean out their homes and rebuild following a natural disaster.  Visit their website or call:(763) 732-0610 to volunteer.
• UJA-Federation: UJA-Federation of New York continues its activities in support of those families and communities struggling to rebuild.
• Repair the World: A continuously updated list of volunteer opportunities and locations accepting donations.

Hunger and Homelessness on Long Island

We continue our efforts to address hunger and homelessness on our very own Long Island.

• Interfaith Nutrition Network: Our congregants contribute canned food and gently used clothes as well as monetary donations to our annual holiday drive.  These items supported the INN's Mary Brennan Soup Kitchen and in particular the purchase of Thanksgiving turkeys for those in need.
• Saint Hugh Project Hope: Our 7th graders and fellow congregants pack lunch bags and sandwiches that are delivered to the hungry and poor in the Huntington Station area.  We cook meals for those staying in the church's shelter.  We staff a Sunday supper that serves dinner to 300 people.
• Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger.  Mazon supports efforts to combat hunger in the United States as well as in Israel and the world.  It grants money to grass roots organizations, such as the INN and Island Harvest.

Connect-to-Care

Along with UJA-Federation of New York, the Sid Jacobson JCC and Jericho Jewish Center, the Jewish Congregation of Brookville co-hosted a networking event for business owners and those seeking employment.  Over 200 people attended this Jericho Networking Event and B2B Professional Meeting.  This was an opportunity not only for those in need of employment to find jobs but for business owners to expand their network.  "All Jews are responsible for one another."

Helping the World

In response to a number of crises throughout the world, our members continue to support the work of the American Jewish World Service.

We are committed to many causes, represented in part by the following national organizations.

• Jewish National Fund.  From the early days of the modern State of Israel, the JNF has worked to rehabilitate the land of Israel through the planting of trees and more recently the building of water reservoirs.
• Save Darfur.  If our suffering in the Holocaust is to hold meaning for the world then we must work to end genocide.  Save Darfur brings together over a hundred diverse organizations in the effort to end the continuing genocide in Sudan.

The meaning and purpose of our synagogue is to help us reach beyond ourselves and to fulfill the vision of our prophets, to heal the brokenness in our world.
